2-part Plaster mould Making Workshop
Sunday May 10th 2026, 11am-5pm
at Flaming Otter Ceramics (288 E Georgia, #130, Vancouver, BC)
Brief Description:
In this workshop Jai will lead participants through making their own 2-part plaster mold from a simply shaped object that each participant brings from home. Once a plaster mold is made, the participants will have the ability to reproduce these items by using the slip-casting or press-mold techniques. Jai uses plaster molds in their work to create sculptural mug handles and other repeated forms in their sculptures.
What you will get out of this workshop:
2-part plaster mould of your object
the skills to make this mould again
a printed document with all of these steps to mix plaster and make the plaster mould
What you should bring:
Each student should bring 2-3 options for objects to mould- maximum 5”x 5”x 3,” (we are only moulding one, the extras are just in case one object is too complex or too large ). These can be leather-hard clay objects, fruits/veggies, plastic toys or whatever you can think of. Just make sure it’s a relatively simple shape and within the size restriction.
( If you are not sure if your object can be moulded as a 2-part mould, just email Jai some pictures of your objects.
clothes you can get dirty, plaster and clay will wash off easily, but we will get dirty!
a dust mask is recommended , either a KN95 mask will work, or P100 filters for a reusable respirator. If you don't have either its okay, this dust is more an issue if you are doing this often- which I am, so I always wear mine!
What is provided:
All materials to make these plaster moulds will be provided, this includes the plaster, clay, and all tools required for this process.
